IBPA Purchase Goals for Fall 2009
The IBPA is committed to using the money that you donate in a responsible manner to enhance the IB program at DMHS. This year, these are the items that we plan to fund:
Test Preparation/Reference Resources - $1,000
Question Banks provide teachers with actual IB exam questions to use in testing throughout the year. This year, we plan to fund these in Mathematics (HL and SL), Chemistry, and Economics/Business Management. Other resources to be funded are Forty Studies that Changed Psychology (Psych SL), Salem Witch Trial DVD/PowerPoint and 19th and 20th Century Poets CD (English HL 1) and DVDs and books for Art History and reference for artistic styles (Art SL).
Foreign Language - $400
The teachers requested materials to aid with conversational practice as well as guided practice activities for students who need additional help. We also plan to establish video libraries in both French and Spanish to further expose the students to culture and conversation.
Nuremburg Trial - $250
This is an annual commitment by the IBPA to provide the pre-Diploma English and History teachers with funds for copying and supplies associated with the Nuremburg trial in Freshman year.
Technology Enhancements - $250
For oral assessments in English, Spanish, and French, the teachers used to record the students’ tests, transfer them to CD, and mail them to the IB testing center. Last year, the IBPA purchased a digital voice recorder, allowing the tests to be transmitted electronically, saving both time and mailing costs. This year, the teachers have asked for an additional memory card to optimize the use of the recorder. Biology has requested document camera microscope adapters so that they can project slides onto the classroom screen.
Miscellaneous Supplies - $100
Normally, the IBPA tries not to fund consumables, but given the economic situation facing the school, we plan to do this on a limited basis this year.
IBPA color multi-function printer/copier - $500
Each year, we incur costs for printing items such as the Recognition Event invitations as well as helping to defray the costs of copying art portfolios that Art SL students must submit for testing. The purchase of this equipment would save on these costs and is estimated to pay for itself in approximately one year.
