Preparing for College

The earlier the better!  Students should research colleges during their junior year (even sophomore year wouldn’t be too early) and visit them.  The common college application is available approximately July 1st .  Colleges have different deadlines, but some common ones begin August 1st for rolling admissions, November 1st for many early action/early decision applications, November 30th for the Universities of California, and approximately January 1st for many private institutions.

Prior to ordering an official copy of the transcript, obtain an unofficial copy from the registrar and check for accuracy.  Students order an official transcript through www.docufide.com and a signature and seal appear in the bottom right hand portion. If students need an official transcript for someone other than a college, they must pay $5 in the bookstore, and bring their receipt, along with a stamped, addressed envelope, to Mrs. Kaufmann, the school registrar.  More information can be found on here, on the school website.

A quick reference to answer this question can be found here.   A student should confirm that the college’s policies have not changed before making a decision based on this information.  This can generally be done through the college’s Admissions website.

A student will not learn his or her scores (which determines the award of the diploma) until July following senior year.  Generally, colleges have notified students of their acceptances and students have committed to a college prior to this.  The colleges will, however, be aware of the student’s pursuit of the diploma and that is a positive factor in the college application process.  Many applications ask if the student is a full Diploma candidate and all of DMHS students are and this fact is confirmed on the IB student’s transcript.

This is a scholarship to Arizona universities which is based on performance on the AIMS test.  For more information, go to the website of the IB guidance counselor and look in important documents.
